Good Evening, Lochdale families!
Please remember that Monday, June 6 is Hats on for Diabetes. Your child can come to school in a hat, tiara or crazy hair for a $1.00 donation. All funds raised will go directly to JDRF.
Here is some information I took directly from the JDRF website (www.jdrf.ca):
For more than 40 years, JDRF has been a leader in the search for an end to type 1 diabetes (T1D), through both research funding and advocacy. During that time, we have talked about a cure as a singular destination: a return to normal physiology.
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone people need to get energy from food. T1D strikes both children and adults at any age and suddenly. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. Though T1D’s causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers play a role. There is currently nothing you can do to prevent it, and there is no cure.
So here is your child’s one time excuse to wear a hat, tiara or crazy hair in school without stern looks from Mr. Klarich -and remember, all for a great cause! Even if your child doesn’t want to wear a hat, your donation will be greatly appreciated by the JDRF 🙂
